Village "Polaki" is situated at the far northern part of municipality Kocani, between municipalities: Kratovo, Kriva Palanka and Makedonska Kamenica.

There is a sertain opinion how the village got it's name. According to that, most of the villagers were farmers. The farmers were graising their herbs by river meadows so called Laki. When asked where would they be the following day, they would answer: Down the Laki (Polaki-te).
The village is mountain and ramose. It is situated 750 m to 1100 m above sea level. It is only 22 km away from Kocani. Most of the road is asphalted (round 80%, or 14 km). The whole village is 74.5 km2. Most of the surface is::
- forest 5742 ha ,
- pasture 237 ha and
- cultivated 399 ha.
Polaki is close to recreation centre "Ponikva", only 5 km from Liso Brdo. 20 km nortest from "Ponikva", also by unasphalted road lies Kalin Kamen (believe that there are cooper seap). Near Kalin Kamen is Carev Vrv, at 2084 m, and at the east side is Ruen, highlight peak Ruen (2252 m), wich is the hightest peak at the Osogovo Mountains, but also the hightest peak in Eastern Macedonia. In this area you can find many solid grounds for winnter sports, since the snow in this area can last up to 7 months ( from november to may).
After the Secound World War there was a big migration, so the number of villagers decreased. There were 1204 people in 1961, but only 245 in 1994. According to the last index in 2002 there are only 59 families in this village (113 people) who live in 180 houses, but most of them are old and ruined.
Hard economic situacion in the country led to revival of the village, so now ever house has electricity, water and road.
There are many tourists, nature covers and hunters who come to Polaki.
So welcome to Polaki. Those who came once, returned again.
