"Sv. Spas" monastery

"Sv. Spas" monastery is lokated in the heart of Osogovo Mountains, at 1000 m above sea level. It is surrounded by oak and brawl forests. Thow it seems hidden between the trees, the view that can be seen from the monastrey is magnificient. True panorama.

According to the osldest settlers of this area, the first information about the monastery date from arround 1832. There was a smalll building that represented the church, the same place where locals held their region ceremonies.

Hundred years later, when the number of settlers started to grow drasticly, poeple decided to build a monastiry.The process lasted beween 1930 and 1935. According to the chursh documents, the monastery was sancified by bishop from Skopje and two priests, when it was named "Sv. Spas"

Since it was built from por material, 70 nyear later, the monastery started to fall apart. At 26.02.2001 the decidion was made to rebuild the monastery. The building started on 09.05.2001

The monastry today is completly different and bigger than it was. But some work still needs to be done and on the outside and on the inside.

It's lively location is the main reason people come and visit it more often. Some visit it for religios ceremonies, some find spiritual piece, people come to hike, some are just tourists ...
